Katharina Forcher

For Katharina Forcher, film has always been a safe space—somewhere she secretly escaped to even as a child. Born in 1986 in Partschins/Parcines, South Tyrol, she began sewing and collecting historical garments in her youth, driven by a passion for unique pieces and their histories—a way of observing human nature and discovering herself. After studying metal arts at the Istituto d'Arte in Trento, she trained as a gold and silversmith in Bolzano. Her obsession with textiles led her into fashion, launching a jewelry line and contributing to collections for Maglificio GRP and Max Rohr. The turning point came in 2013, collaborating with British photographer Nick Clements on a photo shoot that included a short neorealist film. This awakened her passion for costume design. She realized costume design allowed her to merge craftsmanship with storytelling and visual dramaturgy—elements she'd always missed in fashion. After the IDM South Tyrol mentoring program in 2016, she worked as an assistant costume designer. In 2019, Katharina became Head of Department for her first feature film and has since worked as a costume designer for short films, television, and cinema—exactly where she has always felt at home.
