A former concert pianist, Kainrath studied in Bolzano, Vienna and Moscow, and also works in cultural management positions. Previously serving as the Artistic Director of the Festival for the Klangspuren Contemporary Music in Schwaz (Austria) and as Deputy Director of the Manifesta International Foundation in Amsterdam, Kainrath currently directs the Bolzano Transart Festival of Contemporary Culture, serves as Artistic Director at the International Ferruccio Busoni Piano Competition, and was designated as Artistic Director of the Klangforum Wien solo ensemble.
