Nela Märki

EDITOR / DIRECTOR

Nela Märki is a multilingual film editor based in Zurich, Bolzano, and Vienna. Born in Basel in 1979, she holds a Master's in History, Philosophy, and Ethnology, plus a diploma in Film Editing from ZeLIG School for Documentary. She has worked on significant projects across Austria, Italy, and Germany, including the award-winning EVERYDAY REBELLION (2013) and LAMPEDUSA IM WINTER (2015), which won Best Austrian Documentary in 2016. For THE BUBBLE (2021), she received a nomination for the Bild-Kunst Editing Prize. She recently completed DIE FOTOGRAFIN UND DER KRIEG (ARD, WDR, Deutsche Welle, ARTE, 2025), about photographer Anja Niedringhaus, killed in Afghanistan in 2014. Nela is currently directing her first feature documentary called WHY THE F*** AM I SO SAD?. As Co-Chair of the South Tyrol Film Association, she works to strengthen the local film industry and promote women in film.
